Abandoned Cart Recovery in Dubsado

If you’re not doing this you’re leaving money on the table.

If you’re using Dubdsado to book paid appointments or paid-in-full anything– straight from your website, you need to set up an abandoned cart sequence, and this blog will tell you how.  Examples of who this is for:

  • Any sort of homemade goods, artists or bakeries

  • Group coaching or paid consultations

  • Photography sessions

  • Pretty much any time you are selling a product or appointment and payment is required up front.

Dubsado’s magic comes in the way of easy inquiry, purchasing and booking processes.  But sometimes you might have a visitor who books an appointment and then stops before paying.  Or they fill out your form for your custom goods or service (public proposal), but don’t pay.

Anytime a lead fills out a public proposal or a lead contact form, that kick starts a new project inside of Dubsado.  Every Dubsado Pro will advise you to automate this process so that nothing gets sent to the client until they are fully booked–meaning proposal completed, contract completed and invoice paid.

But what happens if this lead fills out the form and doesn’t pay?

Dubsado will STILL start a new project, but that’s it.  Nothing else happens unless you manually follow up (spoiler alert: most of us don’t.  In fact, according to SaleCycle, 48% of us are not checking back in with a (now) warm lead.

26% of visitors will find what they need somewhere else, but with a 40% open rate, it is WELL worth your time to set up a quick automation to stay at top of mind.  (SaleCycle)

That doesn’t have to be the end of your journey with that potential client!  They could have backed out for any number of reasons.  It could be the price, they need more time to think about it, or they simply got distracted (hello, life in general). Sometimes they just need the reminder.  Other times they need more reassurance or more incentive

But the good news is that with the right nurturing and a proper abandoned cart email sequence, you’ve got a 40% chance of getting that lead to open an email (SaleCycle), which is WELL worth the effort of setting up a quick automation to stay top of mind.

Let's roll up our sleeves and get those carts back where they belong – in the checkout lane! 🛒✨

Note: What I’m about to show you will only work for purchases that need to be paid in full.  This also works if you want to apply it manually to a project. (that’s what I do)

Here’s how to create an automated abandoned cart sequence in Dubsado (do everything in this order):

  1. Have your product and fulfillment workflow ready.  This should include a public proposal, package(s), & payment plan.  Create your fulfillment workflow and emails that your client will receive if they DO follow through with payment and complete the booking process.  I would name this after whatever product it is, but for this example we’ll call it FULFILLMENT WORKFLOW. Click HERE if you need help with this step.

  2. Write your abandoned cart emails (link below to a template).  Go to emails > templates > canned emails.  Pro tip: use the title as a place for you to keep your emails in order.  Ex: Abandoned cart email #1, Abandoned cart email #2, etc.  Emoji’s make it easier for me to organize and find stuff–don’t ask why.   Make sure each email contains the smart field for the invoice: {{job | invoiceLink}}

  3. Create an ABANDONED CART WORKFLOW.  Templates > Workflow.  Here is what this will look like:

By creating your workflow in THIS^^ order, the fulfillment workflow will start as soon as the invoice is paid, and then it’ll pause this workflow so no further emails will be sent.

This workflow can be attached to a public proposal and automatically started, or you can go in and manually add it to a project.

A few quick tips:

  • 2-3 email sequence seems to be the sweet spot (open & click rates don’t usually drop until email #5)

  • Wait at least an hour to send the first email

  • Use smart fields to personalize the name and items they were looking at

  • Provide an exclusive offer or incentive.

  • Write winning emails with the Abandoned Cart template from The Copy Bar (<— affiliate link)

  • Showcase social proof

That's a wrap my friend! You're now armed with the secrets to conquer abandoned carts like a pro, thanks to Dubsado's workflow wonders.

Cheers to fewer abandoned carts and more cha-chings! Until next time, happy hustling! 💼✨
